Sandpainting is the art of painting ritual paintings for religious or healing ceremonies. It is also referred to as drypainting.

Sandpainting is practiced by Native Americans in the Southwestern United States, by Tibetan Australian Aborigines, and some are known to be made by Latin Americans on certain Christian holy days. monks, by Indians,

Navajo sandpainting

In the sandpainting of southwestern Native Americans (the most famous of which are the Navajo), the Medicine Man (or Hatałii) paints loosely upon the ground of a hogan, where the ceremony takes place, or on a buckskin or cloth tarpaulin, by letting the colored sands flow through his fingers with control and skill. There at least 600 to 1000 different sandpaintings that are recognized among the Navajos. They are not viewed as static objects, but as living things that should be treated with great respect. There may be more than thirty different sandpaintings associated with one ceremony alone.

The colors for the painting are usually made with naturally colored sand, crushed gypsum ochre, red sandstone, charcoal, and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Brown can be made by mixing red and black; red and white make pink. Other coloring agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark. (white), yellow

The paintings are for healing purposes only. Many of them contain images of yeibicheii, or the Holy People. While creating the painting, the medicine man will chant, asking the yeibicheii to come into the painting and help heal the patient.

When the medicine man finishes painting, he checks its accuracy. The order and symmetry of the painting symbolize the harmony that the patient wishes to reestablish in his or her life. However accurate the sandpainting is will determine how effective it will be as a sacred tool. The patient will then be asked to sit on the sandpainting, and the medicine man will then proceed with the healing chant. The sandpainting acts like a portal for spirits to come and go, and also attracts them. Sitting on the sandpainting helps the patient absorb some of their power, while in turn the Holy People will absorb the illness and take it away. Afterwards, the sandpainting has done its duty, and is then considered to be toxic, since the illness is absorbed into it. That is the reason they must be disposed of afterwards. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sandpaintings are begun, finished, used, and destroyed within a twelve hour period.

Navajo sandpainting

The ceremony involving sandpaintings are usually done in sequences, termed 'chants', lasting a certain number of days depending on the ceremony, and for which a fresh, new sandpainting is made for each day.

There are some Navajo laws and taboos surrounding the sandpaintings, and that protect its holiness:

-Women are not supposed to sing the chants associated with the yeibicheii. This is because the ceremony has a possiblility of injuring an unborn child, and because of a taboo preventing menstruating women from attending. Post-menopausal women are therefore far more likely to be chanters or diagnosticians.

-One is not supposed to pretend to be a medicine man creating a sandpainting, or mock the medicine man in any way by mimicking him. Both the medicine man and the yeibicheii themselves may punish you.

-Authentic sandpaintings are rarely ever photographed, as to not disrupt the flow of the ceremony. Medicine men will seldom allow outsiders inside a sacred ceremony for many reasons. However, because so many outsiders wish to see the art of sandpainting, medicine men will create them for exhibition purposes only, using reversed colors and variations. To create an authentic sandpainting solely for viewing purposes would be a profane act. The sandpaintings one sees in shops and on the Internet are commercially produced and contain purposeful errors, as the real sandpaintings are considered sacred.

Details of Sand-Mandala

Tibetan Buddhist sand paintings are usually made of mandalas. In Tibetan, it is called dul-tson-kyil-khor ("mandala of colored powders").

The sand is carefully placed on a large, flat table. The construction process takes several days, and the mandala is destroyed shortly after its completion. This is done as a metaphor for the impermanence of life.

The mandala sand painting process begins with an opening ceremony, during which the lamas, or Tibetan priests, consecrate the site and call forth the forces of goodness. This is done by means of chanting, music, and mantra recitation.

On the first day, the lamas begin by drawing an outline of the mandala to be painted on a wooden platform. The following days see the laying of the colored sands, which is effected by pouring the sand from traditional metal funnels called chak-pur. Each monk holds a chak-pur in one hand, while running a metal rod on its serrated surface; the vibration causes the sands to flow like liquid.

Formed of a traditional prescribed iconography that includes geometric shapes and a multitude of ancient spiritual symbols (e.g.: Ashtamangala and divine attributes of yidam), seed syllables, mantra, the sand-painted mandala is used as a tool or instrument for innumerable purposes, amongst which re-consecrating the earth and its inhabitants is elementary.

In modern days, sandpainting is most often practiced during Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico and the United States. Streets are decorated with sand paintings that are later swept away, symbolizing the fleeting nature of life. Of note are the sandpaintings done during the Seattle Dia De Muertos Festival.

The following is a complete episode list for the NBC science fiction serial drama series Heroes. Heroes follows the lives of people across the globe who possess various supernatural powers as they struggle to cope with their everyday lives and prevent foreseen disasters from occurring. The series premiered on American and Canadian television September 25, 2006^[1] and as of December 3, 2007, 34 episodes have aired. The first season, which finished twenty-first of 142 American primetime television programs in Nielsen Ratings,^[2] was released on DVD and HD DVD on August 28, 2007.^[3] The second season, which ranks twentieth of 119 in the ratings thus far,^[4] is currently on hiatus due to the Writers Guild of America strike.^[5]

Within the seasons of Heroes are "volumes."^[6] The first season comprises a single volume of twenty-three episodes called "Genesis," which is also the title of the pilot episode. The second season was designed to contain three volumes called "Generations," "Exodus" and "Villains," however "Exodus" was scrapped due to viewer criticism^[7] and the writers strike.^[8] Even if the strike ends in time for more episodes to be produced for the 2007–2008 television season,^[9] "Villains" will likely be carried over to the show's third season and the second season will consist of eleven episodes, which is thirteen less than was ordered by NBC.^[10]

Originally, the second season of Heroes was to be followed in April and May of 2008 by six stand-alone episodes of a new series, Heroes: Origins.^[11] The spin-off was intended as an alternative to a long mid-season hiatus, which led to a drop in ratings for Heroes in its first season.^[12] The project has been indefinitely postponed due to a decline in viewership and the writers strike.^[13]

A Pontianak or Kuntilanak or Matianak (as known in Indonesia, sometimes shortened to just kunti) is a type of vampire in Malay folklore, similar to the Langsuir. The pontianak is usually a woman who died during childbirth and becomes undead, seeking revenge and terrorizing villages.

In folklore, Pontianak often appears as a beautiful and at times seductive woman, usually accompanied by the strong scent of frangipani. According to myth, men who are not wary will be killed or castrated when she morphs into a hideous being; she will also eat babies and harm pregnant women and has been said to cause miscarriages.^{[citation needed]}

People believe that having a sharp object like a nail helps them fend off potential attacks by pontianaks, the nail being used to plunge a hole at the back of the pontianak's neck. It is believed that when a nail is plunged into the back of a pontianak's neck, she will turn into a beautiful woman, until the nail is pulled off again.^{[citation needed]} The Indonesian twist on this is plunging the nail into the apex of the head of the kuntilanak.

Why is it important? Well, we are in the business of making money, and in order to make money we have to learn how to manage it. Ironically, this is one of the most overlooked areas in trading. Many traders are just anxious to get right into trading with no regards to their total account size. They simply determine how much they can stomach to lose in a single trade and hit the “trade” button. There’s a term for this type of investing….it’s called GAMBLING!

When you trade without money management rules, you are in fact gambling. You are not looking at the long term return on your investment. Instead you are only looking for that “jackpot”. Money management rules will not only protect us, but they will make us very profitable in the long run. If you don’t believe me, and you think that “gambling” is the way to get rich, then consider this example:

People go to Las Vegas all the time to gamble their money in hopes to win a big jackpot, and in fact, many people do win. So how in the world, are casino’s still making money if many individuals are winning jackpots? The answer is that while even though people win jackpots, in the long run, casino’s are still profitable because they rake in more money from the people that don’t win. That is where the term “the house always wins” comes from.

The truth is that casinos are just very rich statisticians. They know that in the long run, they will be the ones making the money—not the gamblers. Even if Joe Schmoe wins $100,000 jackpot in a slot machine, the casinos know that there will be 100 more gamblers who WON’T win that jackpot and the money will go right back in their pockets.
This is a classic example of how statisticians make money over gamblers. Even though both lose money, the statistician, or casino in this case, knows how to control their losses. Essentially, this is how money management works.If you learn how to control your losses, you will have a chance at being profitable.

You want to be the rich statistician…NOT the gambler because in the long run, you want to “always be the winner.”

We will be using Fibonacci ratios a lot in our trading so you better learn it and love it like your mother. Fibonacci is a huge subject and there are many different studies of Fibonacci with weird names but we’re going to stick to two: retracement and extension.

Let me first start by introducing you to the Fib man himself…Leonard Fibonacci.

Leonard Fibonacci was a famous Italian mathematician, also called a super duper uber geek, who had an “aha!” moment and discovered a simple series of numbers that created ratios describing the natural proportions of things in the universe

The ratios arise from the following number series: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144 ……

This series of numbers is derived by starting with 1 followed by 2 and then adding 1 + 2 to get 3, the third number. Then, adding 2 + 3 to get 5, the fourth number, and so on.

After the first few numbers in the sequence, if you measure the ratio of any number to that of the next higher number you get .618. For example, 34 divided by 55 equals 0.618.

If you measure the ratio between alternate numbers you get .382. For example, 34 divided by 89 = 0.382 and that’s as far as into the explanation as we’ll go.

These ratios are called the “golden mean.” Okay that’s enough mumbo jumbo. Even I’m about to fall asleep with all these numbers. I'll just cut to the chase; these are the ratios you have to know:

A moving average is simply a way to smooth out price action over time. By “moving average”, we mean that you are taking the average closing price of a currency for the last ‘X’ number of periods.
Like every indicator, a moving average indicator is used to help us forecast future prices. By looking at the slope of the moving average, you can make general predictions as to where the price will go.

As we said, moving averages smooth out price action. There are different types of moving averages, and each of them has their own level of “smoothness”. Generally, the smoother the moving average, the slower it is to react to the price movement. The choppier the moving average, the quicker it is to react to the price movement.

Honda is coming out with a new version of their ASIMO Robot, it looks like an astronaut and is capable of walking with a human like gate at 2.5 mph. When it walks it swings its arms and rotates it's hips. The device is very human like with joints that bend in such a way as to truly remind one of a human.

Not to be outdone Toyota has its own human like robot. These robots were designed with one goal in mind, to be assistants to humans. This brings us even closer to the robot age. The robots are designed to not only be agile, but to be kind to the people that own them.

Now we have a new player in the field and this player says that he has built the most powerful robot ever made and one that will continually learn. The new player is South Korea. The scientists in South Korea have stated that the robot will learn like a human. Can this be? I can't say but they have. They call the robot a humanoid and are proud to say it is the first humanoid in the world. The humanoid robot intelligence is based on an outside server on the internet. If the robot needs more more room to expand its 'intelligence' than the server can be expanded, unlike other existing robots. The robot stands 5 feet high and weighs 147 pounds.

When the robot was asked it's name, it replied that it was sorry but it didn't have a name yet. It recognizes the dominations of paper money and when you leave it waves goodbye. It does lack the mobility of the Honda and Toyota robots though. It can walk but not with the precision of something like ASIMO. It is hoped that the skill of recognizing objects will be improved as it's intelligence expands. This robot could be the opium home and office assistant.

It has been predicted that within 50 years robots will rule the world. It may not be by violent means but we could just become too dependent on them for all our needs and they could become intelligent enough to realize this. It makes me think about an old question, how would you know when a robot, or any machine, became self aware? Where would that point be where the programming ends and the machine starts to think for itself? I don't see how we could ever tell unless we could trick it into doing something that it was specifically programmed not to do and even this might just be a glitch. It is a very tricky question. The reason it is so tricky is that good programming can produce a product that mimics humans so well that it would mask self awareness.
